Per Oscarsson - Per Oscarsson Pronounced Dead After House Fire
PER OSCARSSON, the 83-year-old Swedish actor who starred in over 100 films and television series, has been confirmed dead after a fire broke out at his house in Skara, southwest Sweden last week, reports the Associated Press. Oscarsson won the prestigious 'Best Actor' award at the Cannes Film Festival in 1966.
Spokesman ULF UDBERG confirmed today (5th January 2011) that remains found in Oscarsson's house were identified as the actor and his wife KIA OSTLING. The couple's home, located just outside Skara, burnt to the ground last Friday (31st December 2010) and fears have been growing for the actor and his wife since. It was reported that only the chimney was left in-tact when fire-fighters arrived at the scene. The 83-year-old had a long and distinguished career in film, and his career peaked when he received the acting award at Cannes for his role as the writer 'Pontus' in the movie 'Hunter'.
Oscarsson most recently appeared in the film 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' in which he played 'Holmer Palmgren', the former legal guardian of STIEG LARRSON's heroine creation 'Lisbeth Salander'.
