Pee Wee Herman - Pee-wee Herman Show Returns To Hbo After 30 Years
PEE-WEE HERMAN, the comic creation of actor PAUL REUBENS, is set to return to HBO some 30 years after he first appeared on the network. 'The Pee-Wee Herman Show', currently running as a stage show on Broadway, will be broadcast as a television 'special' in January 2011, HBO have confirmed.
The current Broadway show is based on Herman's original stage show as well as his EMMY AWARD winning morning show 'Pee-Wee's Playhouse'. Filming of the show, which stars JESSE GARCIA, JOSH MEYERS and LYNNE MARIE STEWART, will commence immediately after its run at the Stephen Sondheim theatre comes to an end on January 2nd 2010. Announcing the news, HBO vice-president of original programming NANCY GELLER said, "Before his hit series and movies, HBO introduced Paul Reubens' Pee-wee Herman to a national audience in the 'Young Comedians' series, followed by the ground-breaking 1981 special", adding, "It's thrilling to have Paul back on the network, and it will be a blast to return to Pee Wee's Playhouse".
Reubens has been enjoying somewhat of a comeback as of late. In 2007 he starred in an episode of hit US sitcom '30 Rock', and in 2009 he appeared in the TODD SOLONDZ directed movie 'Life During Wartime'. He has also voiced a character for the 2011 animated film 'The Smurfs', which also features THE SIMPSONS star HANK AZARIA.
