Pedro Almodovar - Pedro Almodovar Honoured In New York

Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar has been feted by officials at the Museum of Modern Art in New York as part of a star-studded gala.
The Volver director was the guest of honour at the fourth annual MoMA Film Benefit on Tuesday night (15Nov11), when celebrities including actresses Drew Barrymore, Blake Lively, Olivia Wilde, Sarah Jessica Parker and Emma Stone and fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld showed up to celebrate his career achievements.
Almodovar's frequent collaborator Penelope Cruz and friend Antonio Banderas sent in video messages to congratulate the writer/director on his big night, with the Spanish beauty saying, "You are one of the funniest people in the world, for sure", adding that she is "hoping that we share many, many more" special moments together.
An emotional Almodovar then took to the stage to thank MoMa officials for the honour, although he apologised to the audience for his "poor English" before admitting, "I'm so moved that I don't know what to say."
The event raised more than $1 million (£625,000) for the museum's film restoration projects.
Previous honourees include filmmakers Baz Luhrmann, Tim Burton and Kathryn Bigelow.
