Peacock Roosts Atop Ratings Again

In her TV column in today's (Wednesday) Washington Post , Lisa de Moraes writes, "Once upon a time, when NBC did not win a week, it was big news. Now, NBC's winning a week is the big news. Like last week." NBC returned to the winner's circle -- at least among the key demo group of 18-49-year-old viewers -- thanks primarily to two talent shows, America's Got Talent and The Voice. Talent wound up as the top-rated show of the week among total adults with nearly 13 million viewers, edging out The Voice with 12.3 million. ( The Voice was No. 1 among viewers 18-49.) NBC also got lucky with its Wednesday-night coverage of the final game of the Stanley Cup Finals, which attracted 8.54 million viewers, making it the most-watched NHL telecast in 38 years. It ended up tied for ninth place. Among the nightly newscasts, both NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams and World News with Diane Sawyer saw their ratings sag. The NBC newscast drew 7.5 million viewers; the ABC newscast, 6.9 million. The CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley stayed relatively flat with 5.4 million viewers. Among total adults viewers, CBS remained in the lead for the week with an average 4.0 rating and a 7 share, just ahead of NBC with an average 3.8/7. ABC was third with a 2.6/5, while Fox trailed with a 2.5/4.

The top ten shows of the week according to Nielsen Research 1. America's Got Talent (Tuesday), NBC, 7.3/12; 2. The Voice, NBC, 7/12; 3. NCIS , CBS, 6/10; 4. NCIS Los Angeles , CBS, 5.4/9; 5. The Mentalist , CBS, 5.3/9; 6. The Bachelorette , ABC, 5.2/9; 7. 60 Minutes , CBS, 5.1/10; 8. Hawaii Five-0 , CBS, 4.9/8; 9. CSI Crime Scene Investigation , CBS, 4.8/8; 9. (Tie) Stanley Cup Finals Game 7, NBC, 4.8/8.
