During her long and distinguished career in Hollywood, the actress worked alongside some of cinema's biggest actors, including James Dean, Marlon Brando, Warren Beatty and the Welsh actor Richard Burton, whom she married twice. However, it was alongside Newman in 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof' that audiences felt she delivered one of her strongest performance. During a tribute to Taylor that aired on Turner Classic Movies, Newman said, "So much has been written for many years about Elizabeth Taylor, is there anything left to say? That she was and is an extraordinary gifted artist is a matter of record", he added, "On the screen her very presence seems to radiate charm. She is a very intuitive actress, she knows her instrument and knows how to make it work. One thing's for sure, she is not afraid to take chances in front of people. I find a lot of actors who reach the top, they become very protective of themselves, and self-indulgent, but not Elizabeth".
Although 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof' did not win any Academy Awards, both Paul Newman and Elizabeth Taylor were nominated in the categories of 'Best Actor' and 'Best Actress'.
