Paul Dano got the silent treatment from Daniel Day-Lewis

Paul Dano never talked to Daniel Day-Lewis on the 'There Will Be Blood' set.

The 28-year-old actor has admitted the Oscar-nominated actor never uttered a single word to him in between takes while filming Paul Thomas Anderson's 2007 film, despite the pair sharing a dramatic scene in which Paul - who plays a menacing preacher - repeatedly slaps Daniel.

Asked whether the pair had bonded on set, he confessed: ''Never had lunch together. I don't think we talked to each other. At the end of a hard day maybe we shook hands or gave each other a nod.''

The 'Little Miss Sunshine' star is a great admirer of Daniel's infamous method acting practice, however, and says he hopes to emulate his successful film career, but wishes fame wasn't a necessary part of his job.

He mused: ''You can have some control over your life. You can want to be famous. I want to be an actor. I go out with friends to regular places. The actors I look up to are those whose work speaks for itself. I'm not saying mine does yet, but I hope it will.''

Paul - who was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor for 'There Will Be Blood' - doesn't pay any attention to awards season, but admits it can be a nice mark of recognition.

He said: ''They can be good for the film, but I don't think they're anything to live or die by. Though id be lying if, with 'Little Miss Sunshine' and 'There Will Be Blood', I said I wasn't thinking, 'Will be we nominated for Best Picture?' ''
