Pattinson: 'Twilight Hysteria Is Insane'

Actor Robert Pattinson is baffled by the obsessed fans of vampire movie TWILIGHT - because he openly admits he "doesn't get it".

The British star has been catapulted to stardom thanks to his role as Edward Cullen in the movie, and fans worldwide are going crazy for the actor.

But Pattinson admits he doesn't understand the craziness of the story, despite reading the "addictive" books.

He tells British morning show GMTV, "The extent to which I've seen the insanity around this story, I don't get it.

"I read the book and the whole series and I can understand they're very addictive but seeing the extent to which some people are just obsessed. I mean people yesterday at the premiere, some were like 'I've come from Brazil just to stand here for the premiere'."

The Harry Potter actor is impressed with the lengths fans go to to support the film - but he can't comprehend what they want from him.

He often tries to placate them by jokingly offering himself to them: "Literally, I'm like 'Do you wanna (sic) come home with me?' Please don't answer that! I'm just saying it to be nice!"

And Pattinson finds it hard to live up to the hype surrounding the vampire franchise.

He adds, "I didn't know anything about the hype when I was making it so now I just turn up and literally I used to get so stressed out because people are screaming at you. And you just think 'What do I have to do? I cant give anything back to you at all.'"

Don't you just hate British actors who try so hard to appear 'non-main-stream' and unique and then somehow end up in Hollywood making their career out of an unisightful movie? Sorry, Rob, but as good-looking as you are and as good an actor as you are, it would help immensely if you stopped going on about how puzzling the hype of 'Twilight' success is to you! Would you rather it flopped? Of course not! Just like any human being out there you are not immune to fame and fortune Hollywood brings, so just sit back, relax and enjoy the ride like the rest of them!!

Pattinson doesn't understand his own power. He's the student who surpasses the master. It seems like he's going through cognitive dissonance or a some kind of identity crisis. He is in such denial about how much his own charisma is a factor in the hysteria. He's going to have to reconcile how he views himself and how the world views him. It must be an uncomfortable place to be in. I hope he has good people to talk to. I would love to offer him that kind of support personally. Just kidding. No, not really. Your power is good sweetie!

Hmmm... I din't like Twilight so much. No, I' dind't like it at all. But I fairly appreciated Pattinson's acting work for his perfomance. I don't undestand this 'hysteria' nevertheless. Robert Pattinson is a pretty good actor - he's gifted even if he can and have to grow. But he's not his character or a freak of nature. Why girls scream and cry? Why they want to date him, merry him, be bitten by him? And, above all, how can an actor focus on his job in such a chaos? Fans camp for him... Good. Is he Gandhi? a Venusian? a giant pumpkin? Sorry, I really don't want to be unkind (just a joke to play down). By the way, surely he's not a vampire. He's a person, an actor. And just a few respect his job and his privacy. He's one for acting, he's born for acting, but I wonder if he's gone into the wrong line... I wish him all the best.
