Patti Smith - Patti Smith Working On Second Memoirs
Punk icon Patti Smith is penning a follow-up to her memoirs, just two years after releasing the tell-all tome.
The Because The Night rocker won critical acclaim for her 2010 book Just Kids, which documented her relationship with tragic photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, who died of Aids at the age of 42 in 1989.
She now wants to let fans know more about her marriage to guitarist Fred Smith, but warns potential readers not to expect any shocking rock 'n' roll secrets.
Smith tells Billboard.com, "(The next book) is in more of the Just Kids vein and even in the similar time period, but shifts more to family, Fred, music. So it's a different perspective. Just Kids was very focused on Robert and my relationship with Robert and wanting to be an artist, and the next book will be more, perhaps, music-based.
"I don't have a big rock 'n' roll lifestyle, a sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll story to tell. I think I have maybe a better story. Through rock 'n' roll I travelled the world, worked with my late brother (Todd) and, best of all, that's how I met Fred. It changed my life in many unexpected ways, so I have my story to tell."
