Patti Labelle Lawsuit: $100,000 To Scream At A Kid?

The infamous Patti Labelle lawsuit that began when the singer was accused of verbally assaulting a mother and her 18-month-old daughter in Manhattan two years ago, has finally come to an end. On Wednesday (September 5, 2012), Patti Labelle agreed to pay the mother $100,000 in damages to end the lawsuit.

Labelle was accused of "yelling, screaming obscenities, throwing water and drenching with water, attempting to strike and physically injure" during an argument in the lobby of Trump Place in Manhattan's Upper West Side on November 11, 2010. A jury trial was scheduled for late November, though Judge John Koeltl signed an order dismissing the case this week. Labelle, who lived in the same apartment building as the victim Roseanna Monk, became upset when her neighbour's child was wandering around the lobby unattended. Monk's lawyer Samuel Davis told Cnn, "LaBelle besieged them with such ferocity, before she doused them with water, that the baby was crying hysterically.LaBelle would not desist. The baby went from crying hysterically to vomiting". Davis claimed that the incident caused a change in the child's personality for several months, saying, "She went from being the most outgoing, saying 'hi' to everybody in the lobby of her building, to being clingy and shy".

The Monk family will reportedly donate the $100,000 to charity, with lawyer Davis also donating his legal fees.
