Patrick Swayze Remembered
Patrick Swayze's wife, Lisa Niemi, says she has become ''stronger'' a year after husband's death.
Patrick Swayze's wife says she is "stronger" a year after he passed away.
Lisa Niemi - who was married to the 'Dirty Dancing' actor for 34 years - says the first anniversary of his death yesterday (14.09.10) was difficult, but she has hopes for the future, and is planning to plant a tree in his honour.
Lisa told People.com: "In some ways I look at the anniversary and I think, 'It's either going to knock me down or it's going to make me stronger'."
"And I know I'm stronger now. The fact that I've had some good days definitely gives me hope that I can have more."
Lisa spent the day at their ranch located just north of Los Angeles, with their three dogs, two cats and seven horses, and was planning to remember Patrick by doing something special.
She added: "I'm looking at doing some things like picking out the most beautiful tree ever, and planting it in an extraordinary spot."
Lisa - who recently admitted she continues a tradition of texting Patrick before she takes off on a flight anywhere - also said she can feel her husband's spirit at the ranch.
She said: "Sometimes there won't be any wind, so I like to think its Patrick. I do sense his presence, and I like that. Just because he's gone now doesn't mean that love doesn't go on."
Patrick died after a long battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 57. His death prompted thousands of tributes and memorials, including a public event in the town of Lake Lure, North Carolina, where much of 1987 movie 'Dirty Dancing' was filmed.
A private ceremony was also held at Sony Studios in Culver City, California, where mourners were greeted by a lone white horse which was saddled and caparisoned - fitted with the rider's cowboy boots facing backward in the stirrups - in tribute to the horse-loving late star.
