Patricia Neal Dies At 84
Actress Patricia Neal, whose own life was seemingly filled with more drama than the slew of movies she appeared in over her long career, died Sunday of lung cancer in Edgartown, MA at age 84, her family disclosed. A year after she won an Oscar for her performance in the 1963 film Hud, she was paralyzed and left unable to speak after suffering three strokes. A love affair with Gary Cooper ended because Cooper refused to divorce. A marriage to writer Roald Dahl ended in divorce. A son suffered brain damage when his stroller was struck by a taxicab, a daughter died from measles. Yet she appeared to triumph over all the adversities and went on to resume her career in movies and television, which earned her another Oscar nomination and three Emmy nominations.
