WWE legend Pat Patterson came out with an announcement on Thursday, proclaiming to the world that he is gay. The former wrestler’s sexuality has been something of an open secret for some time in the world of wrestling, however this is the first time that mainstream media is turning its attention to the subject. Patterson made the announcement in an emotional and rather heartwarming video on this week’s episode of Legends' House on WWE Network. The network then shared the segment in a video on the official WWE Twitter feed. The video shows Patterson sharing his story, as well as the emotional reactions of his peers.

According to TMZ, Patterson had never discussed his sexuality publicly throughout the five decades since he started his wrestling career. Despite this, he has managed to find success in his career and happiness in his personal life. The former wrestler, now a WWE exec, explained in the segment that he had had a partner for over 40 years, who has since passed away.

Patterson has been Vince McMahon's right hand man for decades. He was also the company's first Intercontinental champion and helped create the "Royal Rumble."
