Hayden Panettiere - Panettiere's Knox Movie Is 'Responsible', 'Unbiased'

The producers of HAYDEN PANETTIERE's upcoming TV movie about AMANDA KNOX have defended their handling of the controversial subject matter, insisting the film was made "responsibly" and won't have an impact on real-life legal proceedings.
The Heroes star plays the American college student in Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy, which is based on the 21 year old's sensational Italian murder trial over the brutal killing of her roommate, Meredith Kercher.
Knox was sentenced to 26 years in prison for slashing her friend's throat with a knife in 2007 during a violent night fuelled by sex and drugs, and she's currently appealing her conviction.
Lawyers for Knox were not happy with plans to turn the story into a movie before the appeal had been concluded and refused to let Panettiere meet the jailed student.
The movie was filmed in Italy last year (10), but executive producer Trevor Walton is adamant the picture won't have impact the ongoing legal proceedings.
He says, "Our story tells factually what happened up to the point of her arrest. We feel we've done this very responsibly and should have no effect on any ongoing trial. We didn't want to be biased in any way. We wanted to tell a drama."
And Panettiere insists that even after filming the movie, she doesn't have an opinion on whether Knox is guilty or innocent of the crime. She adds, "It's one of those really riveting stories where you just don't know. I can't say I have an opinion. That's why the story is so interesting. I don't know that we'll ever really know... This wasn't a dark, angry girl. She was a young girl with dreams and aspirations. I don't think guilty or innocent takes away from that."
Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy airs in the U.S. on 21 February (11).

Amanda Knox still is "a young girl with dreams and aspirations." She shows more courage than any woman I can think of in current time. She is clearly innocent of the murder of her friend as every lawyer, judge, law enforcement professional, forensic scientist in the western world will tell you. The evidence against her is trumped up and anyone looking can see it. At this point, the behavior of the police in this case is being analyzed by the Italian Parliament. How the heck can you make a movie about her, analyze her movement and behavior and not know without shadow of a doubt she's innocent? Perhaps Hayden is hoping to contain our suspense.

Whether you believe in her or not, Amanda Knox is still a very frightened, very naive young lady who choose to stay in Italy to comfort Meredith's father and stayed in Perugia to help the police rather than seek shelter with relatives in Germany.Let’s flood her cell with cards, letters and Valentine's on February 14 (after Saint Valentine whose feast is on February 14.) Please mail by February 1 and packages will NOT be allowed into the prison. This gesture will cost you only $.98 in postage.Miss Amanda Marie Knoxc/o Casa CircondarialeStrada Pievaiola06100 Capanne (PG)ItalyBless you!

I fail to see any possible justification for making such a film and broadcasting it at this time, when Amanda and Raffaele’s painfully slow appeal process is underway. And I find it extraordinary that an actress thinks she can portray anything if she hasn’t actually looked closely enough at the case and the evidence to form an opinion on guilt or innocence of the person she is portraying! Hayden is right that the whole truth may never emerge, for reasons of Perugia’s shame and embarrassment. But it is becoming clear that this highly implausible case against a normal young couple, outsiders with no track record of violence, and without a shred of actual evidence, was callously constructed by a person or persons bunkered into uncontrolled local judicial power. It was then consolidated by a gullible and ruthless media. Not for the first time, this case underlines the need for checks and balances to guard against such people in all walks of life. Their absence here has allowed the cynical and ruthless perpetration of further crime while failing to solve the original one. A good starting point for any actor or anyone else wishing to understand what has really gone on here would be to read Psychologist Professor Robert D Hare’s chilling book ‘Without Conscience’.

It is ridiculous for Lifetime to claim it is only presenting the facts. They are going to present how Amanda and Raffaele behaved from the morning they discovered Meredith's body to the moment of arrest. This involves showing how they behaved, which is entirely a matter of interpretation. Their expressions and demeanor are critical, and no one from Lifetime was their to observe them for those four days. Especially if they show their behavior when no one at all was observing, which is most of the time. For example, on the morning of Nov.2, when Amanda went home to shower, will they show a girl who knew nothing was wrong, acting nonchalantly, and finding very strange things? Will they show Amanda simply handing Raffaele a mop when the communication police arrive with the cell phones? Will they show that Raffaele had already called the police? How about on the fateful night of the 5th, when Amanda readily accompanied Raffaele to the Questura. Will they show a relaxed girl, doing her homework, and out of boredom doing some yoga? Will they show a young policeman coming over and chatting? Will they show him asking Amanda to demonstrate a cartwheel? How about when Napoleoni then approaches? Will they show a helpful Amanda willingly be questioned because she thought she was helping the police? Most important, will they stop there? Absolutely no one knows what happened during the interrogation that night! Absolutely no one knows how the police really treated Amanda! There is the police version, and Amanda's version. However, not one damned person from Lifetime was there. Are we going to get there utterly fictionalized version? Presented as fact? This movie is irresponsible, when two young people's lives are on the line. Lifetime has no right to recreate behavior that is unknown to them, and subject to interpretation. Hayden Panettierre says no one knows what happened - so why are they exploiting it with their own fictitious version of behavior presented as fact.
