Panahi Released From Prison
25 May 2010The filmmaker has walked free from Tehran's Evin jail on $200,000 (£133,000) bail just weeks after a group of Hollywood stars including Robert De Niro, Robert Redford and Steven Spielberg signed an open letter to government officials demanding his release.
Panahi, a vocal supporter of the country's opposition leader Mirhossein Mousavi, was imprisoned in March (10) following a police raid on his home in Tehran. His arrest has been linked to his decision to back Mousavi in the contested 2009 election.
According to the IRNA news agency, Panahi's case will be reviewed by a revolutionary court and he may still face trial.
Panahi embarked on a hunger strike last week (ends23May10) to protest his detention.
