Pam Tillis Plays On As Last Day Of Country Show Is Cancelled

Pam Tillis thrilled country fans at the Jukebox Music Festival in Shasta, California on Sunday (22Jul12) when she agreed to perform acoustically after promoters pulled the plug on the final day of the weekend event.

Festival boss Allan Folino blamed poor walk-up ticket sales and safety concerns for the decision to abruptly cancel, amid reports that headliner Alan Jackson was too sick to perform after he cancelled a concert in Los Angeles on Friday (20Jul12).

Folino insists Jackson is not to blame for his decision to scrap the last day of the festival, but on Monday (23Jul12) he told radio station Q97 he had not collected enough money to pay the headliner his $225,000 (£141,000) fee.

He said, "We ran out of money for Alan Jackson. We talked all night long to try to get him to work with us... They came back and said he is going to take a pass."

As the atmosphere on site turned "volatile" on Sunday when paying festivalgoers demanded their money back, Tillis took to the abandoned stage and performed for fans.

She later tweeted, "Even though the Shasta County show was cancelled we still wanted to play a few for the faithful fans that stayed!"

Jackson also released a statement via his website on Sunday, which read: "Following early morning e-mails from the promoter of the Jukebox Music Festival, Alan Jackson will not be performing as planned this evening in Anderson, CA. Jackson, his band and crew were on-site this morning, ready to load in and prepare for the show, but he will regretfully not be performing.

"Citing the postponement of Jackson's Friday show in Los Angeles, the promoter felt that this impacted ticket sales, even though Jackson played a sold-out show in Salinas, CA Saturday night. Jackson is sorry to disappoint his fans who had expected to see him tonight, but the trucks and buses will turn around and head to Los Angeles, where he is playing his rescheduled Greek Amphitheatre concert on Wednesday."
