Osmonds Get Two Year Vegas Extension

Pop siblings DONNY and MARIE OSMOND have signed a new deal extending the run of their Las Vegas variety show by two years - just seven weeks after its opening.
The pair initially agreed to perform a 26-week run of shows at the Flamingo Las Vegas hotel and casino kicking off on 9 September (08).
But their stint has become such a big hit, Flamingo President Don Marrandino has called on the duo to continue entertaining guests until October 2010.

Marie Osmond Faced Weightloss Demand From Producers On Donny & Marie 3887723 News

Former child star Marie Osmond was scared into staying slim during her stint on 1970s variety show Donny & Marie after allegedly receiving threats about her weight from Tv producers.

The Paper Roses singer reveals her lifelong weight struggles began when she was guilt-tripped into shedding 10 pounds (4.5 kilograms) as a teen in order to keep the show on the air and was told to keep the threats a secret from her family and her co-star, brother Donnie Osmond.

She tells U.S. talk show host Wendy Williams, "I weigh about 125 pounds right now, and I'm the same height I was (when) I was 14 years old when I started doing Donny & Marie... but I was about 103 pounds and I had producers take me out into parking lots and threaten me to never tell my parents and said that 200-and-something people's jobs were on my back and they were gonna cancel the show if I didn't drop 10 pounds... I didn't tell anybody about this... I got down to 93 pounds. (It was) totally crazy."

Osmond, now 53, admits her weight problems prompted her to try out every diet fad available, until she found healthy eating programme Nutrisystem, for which she is now a spokesperson.

She says, "I've been on every diet, from where you drink lemon water for three days, yeah, I've done it all. Finally you get smart and you realise that the only way to really lose weight is to eat food! Be healthy."

According to the Associated Press, the show's producer and distributor, Associated Television International, have said in a statement that Marie was going into broadcast syndication -where the right to broadcast a show is sold to multiple broadcasting platforms - as had been originally intended, with a planned launch for Fall next year (2014). "With so many talk show offerings in the [daytime], particularly in broadcast syndication, Hallmark Channel has decided not to greenlight a second season of its Critics Choice Award nominated talk show, Marie, starring Marie Osmond," said The Hallmark Channel who recognised Marie's "immense talent and dedication to excellence" in her Critics' Choice nominated show.

53 year-old Marie made her name as a sister to the Osmond brothers and in her own right as a country singer, particularly her hit cover 'Paper Roses.' Her move into television presenting was marked by her variety show, Donny & Marie, with joint-host and brother Donny in a series that was a big hit from 1976-1979. According to MultiChannel News, Hallmark will continue to air new Marie episodes through August and will then offer repeats through the fall beginning on the 28th September. However, it's unclear who will fill the timeslot previously occupied by Marie.

Osmond Didn't Want To Go Bad For Grease 1706962 News Clean-cut Mormon MARIE OSMOND turned down an offer to star as SANDY in GREASE - because she didn't want to play a bad girl.
Film bosses approached the singer/actress to play conservative student Sandy Olsson at the height her fame in 1978.
Producers were forced to hand over the role to Australian actress Olivia Newton John after Osmond rebuffed the offer - insisting she didn't agree with playing a character who turned bad to get her man.
And Osmond doesn't regret turning down the chance of being part of the hugely successful movie.
She tells Fox news, "The script came to me, and (it) was much edgier then what Olivia came up with.
"But I was at a place in my life where I wanted to have children and I didn't like the fact that the girl had to turn bad to get the guy. I think the guy has to work hard to get the girl, that's what I believe."

Osmond Gains Confidence With Nude Tanning Trips 1726536 News Veteran entertainer MARIE OSMOND had to strip off and be spray-tanned in the nude before she learned to embrace her ageing body.
The 49-year-old singer was asked by TV producers to darken her complexion before she began her stint on U.S. reality show Dancing with the Stars last year (08).
In her new memoir Might As Well Laugh About It Now, the mother-of-eight admits she was initially shocked by the idea.
She writes, "The assistant... said, 'Strip! Completely naked'... 'Where's the tanning booth?' I asked. 'No booth... Just me and this.' She held up a can the size of a fire extinguisher sporting a hose with a gun-shaped nozzle."
But it only took a few weeks before Osmond began to enjoy the sessions.
She adds, "By week 10, it seemed as casual as taking your car into a drive-through car wash."
