Oscars 2012: Melissa Mccarthy In Tears Before She Hit The Red Carpet

Melissa McCarthy was in tears on Oscars night, before she'd even hit the red carpet. She revealed to red carpet reporters that her shoe designer pal Brian Atwood had inscribed a message on the bottom of her shoe for her. CNN's entertainment bloggers have revealed that in order to reveal the content of the message, MCCarthy removed her shoe to show a message that read "Exclusively made for my BFF Melissa MCCarthy on Oscar night," and the actress told Cnn's reporters that reading it had made her shed a tear or two.

She seemed to have composed herself by the time she hit the red carpet though, in a floaty coral pink dress with a silver, jeweled neckline and empire detail. The dress was designed by Marina Rinaldi. Melissa Mccarthy had been nominated for the Best Supporting Actress award, for her role in the hit comedy Bridesmaids. She faced stiff competition for Jessica Chastain (The Help), BERENICE BEO (The Artist) and Janet McTeer (Albert Nobbs) but was beaten to the prize by Octavia Spencer for her role in The Help.

MCCarthy also told reporters that her family were on hand to support her through the emotional evening. She had already told the chat show Ellen Degeneres of her nervous encounter with Meryl Streep at the Golden Globes earlier this year but said that her family were keeping her grounded this time around: "it's crazy on every level," she said "My mom and dad and sister are here with me tonight, and to see them in the midst of all of this is almost keeping me calmer because I'm worried about them. On the way over, I said, 'Oh my God, I think we're going to the Oscars.'"
