Paralympian Oscar Pistorius will be allowed to leave South Africa to compete in races abroad as he awaits trial for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

The South African athlete was charged last month (Feb22) with deliberately shooting dead model Steenkamp at his home in Pretoria. He admits killing her but denies murder, insisting he thought she was a burglar.

Under bail conditions imposed following his arrest, Pistorius was ordered to hand over his two passports and was banned from leaving the country.

He applied to lift the restrictions, and on Thursday (28Mar13) a judge in the city agreed Pistorius can travel abroad to compete in races as long as he provides officials with details of his planned destinations in advance.
