Oscar De La Hoya, the former boxing world champion turned promoter, has voluntarily checked himself into rehab, reports Tmz.com. Oscar De La Hoya says he will come out a "strong, healthier person" after spending time at the Californian facility.
De La Hoya reportedly entered rehabilitation sometime within the last few weeks, and a source close to the boxing legend said he had, "voluntarily commenced proactive treatment to address certain health and personal issues". In a statement, the 38-year-old said, "After doing an honest evaluation of myself, I recognize that there are certain issues that I need to work on. Like everyone, I have my flaws, and I do not want to be one of those people that is afraid to admit and address those flaws". De La Hoya, who founded the lucrative boxing promotion company 'Golden Boy Productions', says he is confident that he will succeed in rehab with the support of his family and friends. Speaking to fans on his Twitter page, the boxer said, "I promise that I will rise from the canvas and knock out this sickness and continue to grow as a person".
Oscar De La Hoya, who won 10 world titles in six different weight classes, has reportedly generated more money than any other boxer in history, with an estimated $696 million in pay-per-view income.
