Original Stone Roses Line-up Play First Show For 22 Years

The Stone Roses claimed back in 1989 that they wanted to be adored, and there was no denying that 23 years on from that song - and 22 years since the original line-up were last together in a live setting - they achieved that beyond measure at a surprise gig in the North West UK town of Warrington last night (May 23, 2012)

The reformed British indie group had only announced at around 4pm yesterday on their Facebook page that they were to play a free gig in the hometown of their front man Ian Brown, causing a mad dash as fans raced to the venue with their memorabilia in exchange for a free wristband - the only way in which you could gain one. NME reports that 1500 people packed into Warrington Parr Hall to watch the original Stone Roses first show together since playing Glasgow Green in 1990, and, indeed, it was the strains of 'I Wanna Be Adored' that greeted them first, affording the band a rapturous response to boot.

The four-piece played an eleven song set with no encore, and featured tracks from both their seminal self-titled debut LP and 1994 'Second Coming,' as well as a couple of B-sides. The minor disappointment might've been the lack of either 'Fools Gold' or traditional set closer 'I Am The Resurrection,' but that was small pickings for the disbelieving fans in attendance, with rumours now surfacing that this may not be the only surprise gig they announce in the run up to their two massive Manchester shows in Heaton Park at the end of June - both long sold out.
