Ordinary Boys Star Used Philosophy To Beat Drugs

Former THE ORDINARY BOYS frontman PRESTON studied philosophy to beat his spiralling drug habit - insisting his passion for reading saved him from his addictions.
The British star - real name Samuel Preston - shot to fame with his band in 2006, scoring a number one single on the U.K. chart and a top twenty album.
Preston admits his time in the band, which split last year (08), was marred by his prescription drug habit - admitting he became so dependent on pills he was barely able to function.
He says, "I was doing so many drugs I didn't know who I was. I was a zombie for months. The pills I popped meant I had no memory of what I was doing. I woke up at home so many times with cuts all over my body and no idea where they came from."
But the singer reveals that he weaned himself off the drugs by studying philosophy.
He adds, "I became engrossed with Malcolm Gladwell and Oliver James - they write accessible books about philosophy and sociology and these kept me sane while I was going through withdrawal."
