Beatles - Ono Urges World To Remember Lennon
Thousands of BEATLES fans descended on New York on Wednesday (08Dec10) to mark the 30th anniversary of JOHN LENNON's death, after his widow YOKO ONO called for the world to remember the rock icon.
Lennon was gunned down outside his home in the Big Apple as he returned from a recording session, and a section of Central Park opposite his apartment block was later turned into a memorial to the star, named Strawberry Fields.
Each year on Lennon's birthday and on the anniversary of his death, fans attend the site to pay their respects - and thousands are expected to visit on Wednesday to mark 30 years since the musician's passing.
Ono says, "On this tragic anniversary, please join me in remembering John with deep love and respect. In his shortlived life of 40 years, he has given so much to the world. The world was lucky to have known him... John, I love you!"
