One Direction - One Direction worry about late Zayn

One Direction worry Zayn Malik will miss their gigs because he is so forgetful.

The group are currently in the middle of their 'Take Me Home' world tour and the 'Little Things' singer often causes concern by forgetting to pack - and has even turned up to airports without his passport in the past.

His bandmate Liam Payne said: ''Zayn is the most likely to forget his passport, and has done a number of times.''

Harry Styles added: ''Zayn often forgets to pack his suitcase before tours.''

The band's road crew are said to have nicknamed the 20-year-old singer 'Nellie' - in reference to an elephant, an animal famed for its impressive memory - but Zayn has been warned to be more organised ahead of the US leg of the tour, which begins in Florida next month.

A source told The Sun newspaper: ''Zayn has been told to get his act together this time.''

Meanwhile, One Direction - of which Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan are also members - have announced plans for a new book.

'Where We Are: Our Band, Our Story' will be released in August and tells the tale of their ''phenomenal'' story in their own words, as well as featuring ''exclusive beautiful photos, backstage snapshots, hand-written annotations and brand new insights into the boys' world''.

Zayn Malik told to kill himself after controversial tweet 4304668 News

One Direction’s Zayn Malik has attracted enormous criticism on Twitter after simply writing ‘#FreePalestine’ on his page.

The tweet has received well over 150,000 retweets and favourites since he wrote it, but he has received a great deal of abuse from fans in Israel and from those sympathising with Israelis. Many fans even urged Zayn to “kill yourself” in response.

Zayn Malik causes Twitter controversy by commenting on Israel-Palestine conflict

A particularly upset fan wrote “you have broken my heart. One of my idols wants me to die”. But many Directioners have leapt to Malik’s defence. One said "it's ridiculous how much hate @zaynmalik is getting for his last tweet. He only spoke the truth”.

Complex tensions focussing around the Gaza region have exploded into reciprocal spirals of violence in the last three weeks, with over a thousand civilians dying as a result of Israeli military countermeasures to combat rocket attacks.

The tweet is not the first time that Zayn has courted controversy this year. Only two months ago, he and his 1D bandmate Louis Tomlinson were shown on a video smoking cannabis.

More: Was the 1D drugs scandal really all that bad?

Not that we’re against pop stars showing their support for political causes – they have the kind of platform to initiate debate that’s unavailable to almost everybody else – but the Israel / Palestine issue is a bit of a knotty one to start off with, isn’t it Zayn?

Meanwhile, Malik’s 1D bandmate Liam Payne used Twitter to stir up a more positive kind of controversy: by posting a ‘nude’ picture on his feed.

Why Going Solo Is The Best Thing For One Direction’s Harry Styles 4295433 News

All good things must come to an end someday, which means that One Direction is eventually breaking up. Sorry, I know, it’s a sore subject for me, too. They’ve consistently put out great pop albums year after year, so it’s not like they should break up, but being in a boy band with a bunch of other guys sharing your spotlight puts a damper on your own personal success, too. Why stick around and split the profits when you can be a bigger star all on your own?! For some pop acts like Emblem3, it doesn’t make a difference who leaves, because nobody is really going to care about whatever solo thing they do. But groups like The Wanted? Nathan Sykes is bound to get big with anything he does now that The Wanted is done.

Harry Styles Esprit ArenaHarry Styles is bound to be One Direction's biggest success

With One Direction, all five of those guys are going to do big things too, but nobody will reach a star status as big as Harry Styles will, because let’s face it: Harry Styles is the lead of One Direction. Every pop group has one, whether people want to believe it or not. Nathan was the lead of The Wanted, James Bourne was the lead of Busted, and Normani Hamilton is totally the lead of Fifth Harmony. It’s not insulting the other members, but the leads just have something that their bandmates don’t. For Styles, he’s clearly the most popular, and arguably even has the best pipes.

So with the massive success that One Direction has achieved over the past few years, what evidence is there that says Styles may be better off on his own, or is even planning on going solo at all? In an interview at Digital Spy last month, frontman of rock band Kodaline mentioned that he had written a song with Styles that may be saved for a solo record. However, a statement was issued from a rep of the group that said any writing the boys are doing is strictly for 1D only. Hmm. Well, back in March, there were reports of Styles linking up with John Legend to write a song for The X Factor winners Alex & Sierra, and just last year, a song containing only Harry’s vocals leaked, but reps confirmed that it was just another One Direction demo.

Next page: Why all of Harry's writing is good for his future

Whether he’s writing for himself or not, he’s clearly making a name for himself outside of 1D’s music. On Ariana Grande’s upcoming record, My Everything, Styles has a co-writing credit on ‘Just a Little Bit of Your Heart,’ and it’s going to be produced by duo Max Martin and Shellback. It’s going to be the first taste we get on what a possible Harry song could sound like, despite the fact that it’s going to be sung by Grande. The most important part here is that her upcoming album is expected to be huge, and this is a big stage for Styles to showcase potential he has as an outside writer. The best case scenario that everyone in Styles’ camp is hoping for is probably Robbie Williams #2, who gained success in his group Take That before blowing up while solo, and it’s definitely a possibility for Harry.

Harry Styles SingingHarry Styles will be contributing a song to Ariana Grande's new album

Now, official Harry solo music most likely isn’t going to come anytime soon, and he’s not leaving One Direction behind for it. The group just recently signed an enormous record deal that’s got them locked into two more studio albums and a greatest hits release. That first of two albums is expected to be out by the end of the year and should feature more writing from the guys than ever before. Liam Payne recently took to Instagram to say that he’s been up “writing a dance banger,” while Niall Horan was writing songs with McFly back in March. With all of the writing Styles has been doing, it isn’t clear whether the songs for other artists are in addition to the ones he’s doing for the group -- but whatever he’s doing is going to undoubtedly help perfect his craft when One Direction is history.

Niall Horan Pleads With Rowdy 1D Fans After Getting Injured In Concert 4260124 News

One Direction’s Niall Horan reached out to fans on Twitter yesterday with a very important plea – stop throwing things onstage. The concept, which may be obvious to some, was clearly unfamiliar to attendees at 1D’s gig in Amsterdam on June 25, during which the 1D guys got pelted with a number of objects thrown by fans. Niall, who went through unspecified “major knee surgery” back in January, is still recovering.

Niall Horan
Love hurts sometimes, especially if you're an international pop star.

He made sure to keep his tone as pleasant as a boy band singer has to be, but still told off the rowdy fans – in his own way.

He wrote: ''Amsterdam thank you for a great couple of shows! Appreciate you coming.

''Also guys! Can you limit what gets thrown on stage please! Coz somethin thrown at me tonight! Hit my knee! A lot of pain from it!

''Never wana sound like I'm complaining! But only having my operation 5 months ago, I still get a bit of pain and I'm very scared about it. (sic)''

Because of his previous injury, Niall’s may gave been the most extreme case, but he wasn’t the only one getting pelted with flying pieces of fan love. Harry Styles reportedly got hit in the face with an unidentified flying object of the non-extraterrestrial kind. It’s dangerous business, being a pop star nowadays.

Setting Scotland Alight! One Direction Break Records With Edinburgh Show 4229467 News

On Tuesday night (3 June 2014) One Direction took to the stage at Edinburgh Murrayfield Stadium for thousands of Scottish 1D fans, as their 'Where We Are Stadium Tour 2014' arrived in the country's capital.

Despite a lot of fans claiming to have abandoned the band after a video of members Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson smoking marijuana in Peru was uploaded, it seems the British boyband still have fans aplenty, as they broke the record for the biggest single show in Scottish history with 64,000+ fans almost filling the 67,800 capacity venue.

Concert-goers were treated to a number of hits from the 1D discography, with a 20+ setlist, including 'Live While We're Young', 'Midnight Memories' and 'Kiss You'. Saving the best for last, their main set closed with 'What Makes You Beautiful', while 'Story Of My Life' and 'Best Song Ever' were included in the encore.

Harry Styles had a sore throat throughout the evening, admitting he wasn't feeling too well and was struggling to even talk. It may have weakened the show a little as he invited the crowd to 'sing some of the parts for me', however the huge and loyal One Direction crowd were certainly up to the sing-a-long task without Styles' asking. The show was reinforced by huge screens with visual patterns, streamers and, in traditional Scottish manner, incredible fireworks to help entertain the audience.

Despite the vocal problems, the fans seemed pleased with the hit heavy show and stage production, going home no doubt immensely satisfied. The group will next play Wembley stadium three nights in a row (6-8 June 2014) and will hit Australia and Japan in February 2015. Let's see if they do just as well in London as they did in Edinburgh!

One Direction's Drug Scandal: Is Smoking Marijuana Considered Shocking Anymore? 4229044 News

Being caught with a joint is really nothing new in the world of pop, especially amongst those aggressively seeking a change of image that will subsequently add a semblance of ‘edge’ to their persona. For child stars especially, in attempts to free themselves from their enforced clean-cut youth and iconic childhood roles, to indulge in the smoking of marijuana is the go-to method of both distancing oneself from the past and declaring oneself as a fully independent adult.

One Direction
The group have come under fire from the tabloids for Zayn and Louis' actions.

The celebrity world abounds with examples of such exploits. Remember the media storm over Justin Bieber’s incident with a “suspicious cigarette” or Miley Cyrus’ bong exploits, which have now evolved into her free and consistent utilization of marijuana symbolism? The celebrity media loves a scandal more than a Republican loves his right to bear firearms, but whilst the current One Direction drug ‘scandal’ has rather predictably been plastered all over the tabloid’s front pages, the majority of the public greets it with a collective shrug of the shoulders. They are, after all, adolescents- the prime age for indulging in experimentation with illicit substances and activities. Most adults will have indulged in similar instances of experimentation with an array substances at a similar age to these patchy-bearded pop stars. In terms of the pop world, this particular act has been seen many times before; so many times, in fact, that the whole ‘rebellion’ phase is part and parcel of the child actor discourse. Some take it just a little too far, and the ensuing descent into drugs has unfortunately claimed the lives of many of Hollywood’s exploited youngsters.

More: Simon Cowell Defends One Direction Following 'Dope Smoking' Incident

What’s more, such an incident has become a ubiquitous symbol of rebellion that the whole One Direction drugs scandal could easily be seen through cynical eyes as more than a little contrived. Simon Cowell’s PR will have watched with extremely beady eyes as Miley Cyrus’ career exploded, despite her very public flaunting of marijuana usage, which far from damaging the singer’s reputation has bolstered it exponentially. Such a once-shocking act has now become just a facet of her pseudo-rebellion against her childhood, a carefully crafted attempt at controversy that although tasteless and trite, has led her to becoming one of the greatest pop stars in the world.

Yet for One Direction, a profile boost is hardly needed. They are already able to sell out stadiums almost on a whim, their fan base comprising of every other girl between the ages of 10-18, plus a few mums of course. Such is the size of their gargantuan following that shedding a few fans from the flock will not harm the band in the slightest, with many more viewing the group from a different perspective now that they are supposedly dabbling in illegal practices. Even so, there has been a reported 79 per cent surge of tickets being listed on re-sale site Viagogo since the incident and many of their younger fans have clearly been perturbed by the group’s frivolities. Now slipping into their twenties, I imagine the One Direction lads will be seeking to mature their image in much the same way as almost every other youngster who has grown up under public scrutiny- from Mark Wahlberg to Macaulay Culkin.

One Direction
Viagogo has reported a surge in tickets for the group's upcoming UK tour being relisted.

For the youth of today, smoking weed is just another rite of passage, following on from the first tentative steps into alcohol as well as fumbling sexual exploits. Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson’s indulgence with marijuana, which is actually legal in Peru in small quantities, should be seen as such. Smoking weed is a widely practiced past time, an act only scandalous to the most conservative of Daily Telegraph readers.

Rappers and contemporary pop cultural icons such as Snoop Dogg, Wiz Kalifa and Lil’ Wayne have ingrained their lifestyles and image with marijuana usage, whilst t-shirts and other garments emblazoned with symbols referring to marijuana are abundant throughout high street outfitters. The reaction to the exploits of the two One Direction members, then, has also gone to show how out of step much of the UK’s press is with the rituals amongst Britain’s younger generations and the shifting attitudes towards drugs they exude. But when the first images of a One Direction member burying his face in a mountain of cocaine arrive on the internet, it will be a very different story indeed.

A Week In News: Weed, Boobs, Ghosts, Guns...And A Wedding 4221156 News

Kim and Kanye Wed

The Wedding: Kim and Kanye got married last weekend. Kthxbai. It has been pretty hard to avoid but if you want to know more about their wedding, click here, get the goss on their weirdly un-Kardashian honeymoon, head here, or find out why Kim's brother Rob decided to skip the wedding here.

The Outrage: Seth Rogen has been forced to abandon his goofy bear act this week to stand up against Washington Post critic Ann Hornaday, who wrote a controversial column implying that the "frat-boy" style movies comedians Rogen and Judd Apatow produce could have fuelled Elliot Rodger's horrific mass shooting last week. Rogen and Apatow let Hornaday have it...and it wasn't even slightly funny. Read more.

The Haunting: Coldplay! Love or hate the melancholic English rockers but they've just broken 2014 chart records with their latest album, Ghost Stories. Read our review here. We're not going to mention the "C-U" phrase here, but it's pretty clear that lead singer Chris Martin's personal life has created the perfect conditions for the record to give fellow chart toppers Michael Jackson and The Black Keys a good scaring. Find out more.

Snoop Dogg

The Activist: Rapper Snoop Dogg may have raised a few eyebrows when he announced he was forming the charity No Guns Allowed to combat gun crime amongst youths but the 'Gin and Juice' star has stuck by his word and has rallied his fellow hip hop stars to take responsibility and be good role models in the wake of Elliot Rodger's mass shooting. He's pretty eloquent too - find out what he had to say on the matter at a recent press conference. And check out his Drake collab to promote the cause here.

The Drugs: Oh, One Direction. Consider your squeaky clean reputation tarnished all thanks to the irresponsible antics of Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik, who filmed themselves smoking weed whilst driving to a concert in Peru. Fans were upset but it was the racial slur that Louis used that could cost them dearly on their upcoming mammoth tour of the US. And find out why Harry Styles refused to fly with his careless pals.

The Protester: Scout Willis, daughter of Bruce, has taken to online activism by stepping out on to the streets of New York completely topless. Why? All is revealed here, but it has something to do with photo sharing site Instagram. Oh, and #FreeTheNipple indeed.

Eva Green

The Banning: Sin City: A Dame To Kill For saw one of their promotional posters banned this week because too much of Eva Green's boob was on show. Check out the sequel's trailer. The MPAA, the American board of movie classification found that they could see too much of Ms. Green's nipple to sign the poster off. Naturally, since the banning has had so much publicity, everyone has seen it anyway. You can too here.

The Panning: Sorry Seth Macfarlane, your new movie sucks. Or at least that's what critics are telling us. We were never expecting anything particularly highbrow from the Ted and Family Guy maker but the least he could do was put some quality jokes and gags in his latest comedy, which many reviewers have found distinctly lacking. Poop, sex, and slapstick deaths. Yep, it's a Macfarlane classic. Read our pick of the worst reviews here and decide for yourself by watching the trailer.

Video Of The Week - 'This Is Where I Leave You' Trailer: This Is Where I Leave You is an upcoming comedy adaptation starring Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, Adam Driver, and Rose Byrne. Based on the Jonathan Tropper book, the movie centres on Judd Foxman (Bateman) who reunites with his siblings at their childhood home when their father dies. It's out in September. Watch the trailer here.

First Weed, Now Racial Slurs: Louis Tomlinson In Hot Water Over N-Word Use 4219616 News

Louis Tomlinson of One Direction has come under fire for not only sharing a marijuana joint with fellow band member Zayn Malik but also using a shortened version of the N-word in the same leaked video. The new clip has sent shockwaves through One Direction's young fanbase as it presents a very different image to that of the usually squeaky clean singers.

Filmed in the car on the way to a recent concert in Peru, the clip shows Zayn and Louis joking around with members of their crew and passing around a joint which is referred to as "Mary Jane," a euphemism for weed. Feathers have also been ruffled by Louis' flippant attitude towards police that they pass and is heard referring to the law enforcers as the "po po."

Tomlinson is heard seeming to say "It's green only, n**" and blowing spoke whilst sharing the joint with the other passengers. A motorcycle police officer drives past and Louis says: "He's having a look. He's thinking 'I'm sure I can smell an illegal substance in there'. And he's hit the nail on the head."

More: The Vamps slam One Direction over leaked video.

The drug use was the first aspect of the video that hit headlines but fans appear to have decided that Louis' use of the derogatory racial language is unforgivable. Alongside dismayed tweets, several fans have uploaded images of themselves burning their tickets for upcoming 1D concerts as the popular boyband embark on a series of UK shows and prepare for a mammoth US tour.

As well as an angry online backlash from disappointed fans, the pair have also faced criticism from John Whittingdale, chairman of the Commons culture, media and sport select committee, who told the Daily Mail: "They are adored by many people and they have a responsibility to set an example."

More: Louis Tomlinson’s dad fears “Amy Winehouse” fate for son.

Other band members Harry Styles, Liam Payne, and Niall Horan are believed to have been travelling in different cars and were not seen in the video. However, Styles has allegedly hit out at his careless band members and even chose to fly in a separate private jet to perform in Sunderland last night. At the show there was no mention of the incident as the band thanked the 52,000 fans present for their support.

A spokesman for the band previously said: "This matter is in the hands of our lawyers" and declined to provide any further statement on the matter.

One Direction Take Note: How Celebrities Survived And Thrived After Their Drugs Scandals 4218724 News

So the clean-cut guys of One Direction (two of them, anyway) have been caught on video smoking weed. It’s not entirely surprising, especially to anyone familiar with celebrity culture. In fact, the drugs bust is now a rite of passage, as common as the coming of age album or the risqué awards show performance. And while for some celebrities, the drugs bust spells the beginning of the end, others have managed to build careers (or transition into adulthood) on the back of drugs charges.

One Direction
Don't worry, 1D can still recover from this.

5. Kate Moss’s waif-ish look and thin frame have attracted accusations of drug abuse ever since she first came on the scene in the late 80s/early 90s. Back then, Moss kept pushing away claims of drug use and eating disorders, but the rumors never died down – until she was actually outed for taking cocaine in 2005. But the then 31-year-old model had never had a spotless reputation to begin with, so instead of ruining her career, the drug scandal re-started it. In the wake of her cocaine scandal, Moss was hired by eighteen top fashion and cosmetic brands, including Rimmel, Agent Provocateur, Virgin Mobile, Calvin Klein Jeans and Burberry. Moss designed a collection, in collaboration with Katy England, for Topshop. One year after her drug scandal, Moss won the Model of the Year prize at the British Fashion Awards, dividing public opinion once again.

Kate Moss has been rocking the heroin chic look since the 90s.

4. Rihanna. RiRi played the good girl card for like two seconds at the very beginning of her career (she did start performing as a teenager, so that makes sense even for legal reasons.) As soon as her third album was out however, the claws also came out or, in her case, the suspicious, cocaine-like substances, taken from a random guy’s head at Coachella. These days, Rihanna is the queen of scandal – be it with her music or personal life. Clearly, it all worked out for her.

Rihanna
Good girl gone bad indeed.

3. Demi Lovato. Lovato is a former Disney starlet, so the fall from grace sort of goes with the territory. We had to put her on the list, though, if only because of the way she has handled herself since. Lovato went into rehab for her eating disorder in 2010. She then returned with a moderately successful, emotionally charged album in 2011 and took a job as a judge on the X Factor. While Demi might not be the subject of teen mania these days, she remains an outspoken advocate for healthy living, mental health and self care. Hats off to you, Miss Lovato.

2. Miley Cyrus. Miley also walked the well trodden path of the Disney starlet, until she turned 18 and went rogue. So far she's twerked on Robin Thicke, made frequent and clear drug references and even lit up on stage at the MTV EGSUnlike a lot of her fellow actress/singers however, Miley’s image change looks completely intentional and controlled. Don’t be fooled by the references to weed and Molly or the on-stage twerking – this is no train wreck. Miley Cyrus knows exactly what she’s doing.

Miley Cyrus
Oh, Miley.

1. This one is debatable, but we’re giving the top spot to Cara Delevingne. Why? Girl dropped an actual bag full of *cough* “a suspicious white powder substance”, as per the Daily Mail out on the street earlier this month, but still managed to avoid an actual scandal. Maybe it’s expected at this point or maybe Cara just has a killer PR team, but when that kind of blunder doesn’t even slow down your career, you know you’ve made it.

So don’t worry, 1D. This doesn’t have to be the beginning of a Bieber-esque spiral into chaos. If these celebrities can come back stronger, better and even more successful from complete meltdowns, that pot smoking video isn’t even worth worrying about.

One Direction's Zayn Malik And Louis Tomlinson Caught Smoking Weed Before Show 4216954 News

Could One Direction be turning into pop's new bad boys?

Up until this point the five British lads have kept a rather clean image since rocketing to global fame, but this may have all changed. Two of the band members, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson, have reportedly been caught on camera smoking what appears to be a "rolled up" joint.

Louis Tomlinson

The clip, which has been obtained by the UK's Daily Mail, was shot while the pair were en route to their 'Where We Are show' in Peru last month, and is being filmed by Tomlinson himself. The 22 year-old can be heard narrating while holding the camera, where he jokingly says, "So here we are, leaving Peru. Joint lit. Happy days!"

"What do you think about that kind of content?" he then asks Malik, who is travelling with him to Peru's Estadio Nacional in Lima, where the band played in front of 40,000 on April 27th. "Very controversial," Zayn replies.

The three other band members, Harry Styles, Niall Horan and Liam Payne were not in the same SUV for the 15 minute journey.

Later in the clip, Tomlinson turns to a police motorcyclist driving alongside the vehicle, and he laughingly says, "One nil b***h! Look at this b***h! He's having a look. He's thinking, 'I'm sure I can smell an illegal substance in there,' and he's hit the nail on the head."

Louis then jokingly puts on a very serious toned voice and focuses the camera towards Zayn.

"Zayn takes his job very seriously. He makes sure he goes through a two hour intense warm-up before every show. Just to get himself in the zone for the show," he says. "One very very important factor of Zayn's warm up of course if Mary J herself. In fact I will present it to him now for some fantastic singing."

After a poor attempt at filming "a bit of culture" they are surrounded by, the oldest member of 1D then turns back to Malik and asks, "How's that kind of culture?" to which he replies, "It's great. It's going to be even greater culture when we get to Jamaica."

Harry Styles Pulls Down Piers Morgan's Pants At Soccer Game 4216034 News

One Direction star Harry Styles embarrassed British newsman Piers Morgan by pulling down his shorts during a charity soccer game.

The What Makes You Beautiful hitmaker was joined by his bandmates Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan, who acted as team manager, at the celebrity soccer tournament in Leicester, England on Monday (26May14).

Morgan, Boyzone singer Ronan Keating and British comedian James Corden also took part in the match alongside former professional players.

A short video has since emerged showing Styles running up behind Morgan and pulling his shorts down in front of the stadium crowd. Morgan swiftly hauls them back up and the singer runs off cheering.

The former talk show host took the prank in good spirits, writing on Twitter.com, "So (Harry Styles) pulled my shorts down mid-game. I believe this got the biggest scream of the day."

He later posted the clip, adding, "(I) can't work out if this is a career high or low?"

Despite the mishap, rival team manager Morgan ended the game on a high as his soccer side emerged victorious following a penalty shootout against Horan's players.

The match, which was organised by Horan, raised money for autism charities Irish Autism Action and U.K. Hearts And Minds Challenge.
