One Direction - One Direction Announce Major U.s. Tour After Chart Success
Fresh from making chart history, One Direction have announced their first major U.S. tour of the United States. The UK boy-band became the first British group in history to top the Billboard Chart with a debut album when their record Up All Night easily sold the required 179,000 copies to oust Bruce Springsteen from the top spot.
The band will now head off on a U.S. tour, beginning in Fairfax, Virginia on May 24 and wrapping up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on July 1. Stops along the way include large venues in Chicago, New York, Atlanta and Las Vegas. U.S. hysteria for the band has been huge, with some commentators comparing it to the Beatles first visit to the States in the 1960's. Irish singer Niall Hordan told Mtv News that the band truly appreciate the fan-love, saying, "No way were we expecting it to do anything like that.We haven't spent that much time out here and obviously not a lot of people know us, but the power of our fans, they never seem to stop amazing us. They're absolutely brilliant and they've bought the album in great numbers".
