Olympians Set To Star In Strictly Come Dancing
Olympians Victoria Pendleton and Louis Smith are both set to appear on Strictly Come Dancing, reports The Guardian. The BBC’s hit show features celebrities pitted against each other in a dancing competition.
Pendleton, gold medallist in the Velodrome, and Smith, silver medallist on pommel horse and team bronze winner, are both looking to capitalise on their new found sporting fame by participating in one of the biggest shows in the UK, fresh from their exploits at the London 2012 Olympic games. Smith auditioned unsuccessfully for The X Factor in 2009, while Pendleton knows all about glossy magazine shoots and has starred in a TV ad for hair brand Pantene, so the pair aren’t strangers to the cameras.
Other celebs due to grace the dance floor are Sid Owen, best known his role in British soap EastEnders, former TV presenter Fern Britton, the actress Lisa Riley and Westlife's Nicky Byrne. Former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan is another sports star vying for the Strictly crown, and follows cricketers Darren Gough and Mark Ramprakash by taking part in the show. The BBC aren’t the only ones looking to propel British Olympians even further into the public eye, with ITV attempting to draw the likes of Sir Chris Hoy, Jessica Ennis and Bradley Wiggins into mentoring roles on their talent show, The X-Factor.
