Ol' Dirty Bastard and Eazy-E (aka Russell Jones and Eric Wright) will play Rock The Bells, it has been confirmed. We know what you’re saying, ‘how can they do that? They’re dead.’ You’re right, but they’ll be performing via hologram – get with the times.

Rock The Bells, a touring hip-hop festival that features classic artists as well as fledging talents, will make the East Rutherford track its home, celebrating its tenth anniversary with a day at the races. Instead of fillies racing, it’ll be rappers performing – some of them posthumously. Of course, this isn’t the first time a dead rapper has performed live in hologram form. The Tupac hologram debuted at Coachella last year, but wasn’t as warmly received as first thought.

The family of Ol' Dirty Bastard and Eazy-E, though, are positive about the idea. "Last night was the first time I saw it, and to me, it was so wonderful to stand by him again," ODB's mother, Cherry Jones, told Rolling Stone. "I don't know how I'm going to react – they'll have to carry me off. But I think it's amazing. I want to sing with it."

Tomica Wright, widow of Eazy-E, said: "To have old generations, new generations be able to experience that chemistry between ODB and Eazy and Bones – you see it on video, you see it on the Internet, but to feel it and have that sense of presence is a great experience.

Rock The Bells will command a huge audience, with hip hop acts like Black Hippy, Common, E-40 & Too Short, Tyler the Creator, Jurassic 5, Rakim and Talib Kweli all performing.
