OFFICE creator and star Ricky Gervais is to be honoured by his home town of Reading, England - by having a street named after him.

The comedian - who won Golden GlobeS for Best Comedy Series and Best Comedy Actor at the glitzy ceremony on Sunday (25JAN04) - is the toast of his hometown since the historic win and now local officials are scrambling to honour him.

A spokesperson for READING COUNCIL says, "Ricky is a very funny man who talks about Reading with humour and affection and I think it would be fitting for the council to come up with a tribute to him, though what form it should take is currently up for discussion."

Gervais will not be the first Reading native to be given such a tribute, the town already has Winslet Place named after TITANIC star Kate Winslet.
