Odd Future's Frank Ocean Reveals Truth About His Sexuality
Frank Ocean, the singer affiliated with the controversial hip-hop group Odd Future, has written an intimate post on his Tumblr account revealing that his first love was with a man. The post was originally intended to be included in the liner notes for his upcoming album, Channel Orange, but instead he chose to end public speculation and post the message online for all to see.
He opened his statement by saying that he hoped "the babies born these days will inherit less of the bulls**t than we did." In his heartfelt statement, Ocean described the first time that he realised he had fallen in love: "4 summers ago, I met somebody. I was 19 years old. He was too. We spent that summer, and the summer after, together. By the time I realised I was in love, it was malignant. It was hopeless. I sat there and told my friend how I felt. I wept as the words left my mouth... He did his best, but he wouldn't admit the same. He had to go back inside soon. It was late and his girlfriend was waiting for him upstairs. He wouldn't tell the truth about his feelings for me for another 3 years."
Frank's Odd Future collaborator, Tyler The Creator, showed an unusual degree of support for Frank, given that he has often been accused of homophobia in the past. On his Twitter feed, he posted a characteristically flippant message saying "My Big Brother Finally Fucking Did That. Proud Of That Nigga Cause I Know That Shit Is Difficult Or Whatever. Anyway. I'm A Toilet."
