The Nothing Compares 2 U hitmaker, 40, likes to balance time in the spotlight with time for herself.
She says, "Fame and beauty together have proved a curse for me. Fame, especially. It's the reason I keep leaving the game. I find it painful, I really do.
"To be a good artist you need to be terribly sensitive. If you are sensitive then you're not well-suited to the vileness of the music industry."
The Californian rockers were defiant in their intention to play the venue once again.
