O'brien Denied Right To Live In New Zealand

THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW creator RICHARD O BRIEN has been left fuming after officials in New Zealand foiled his plan to retire there by refusing to grant him residency.
The 68-year-old Brit emigrated to New Zealand with his family when he was 10 years old and spent 12 years in the country before moving to London. O'Brien's siblings still live there, and so did his parents before they passed away four years ago.
The actor/writer had been planning to move back to the country to be closer to his family, but immigration officials have now rejected his visa application - insisting he does not fit the criteria for citizenship or permanent residency.
O'Brien admits he's baffled by the decision, and is planning to appeal to New Zealand's Immigration Minister Jonathan Coleman.
He tells the New Zealand Herald, "I just want to die in New Zealand. It's my home; it always has been and it always will be. (New Zealand) has always given me a great deal of strength and comfort and I have my brother and sister and more family there. It's just home... So we're going to be asking the minister to grant an exception to the policy because he is who he is."

I absolutely cannot believe that NZ could possibly deny residency to someone who considers himself a NZer and is considered by NZ to be one of our cultural musical icons... It's sickening.Does anybody out there know if there has been any further developments on this matter?
