Obama Gets More Laughs Than Leno At White House Dinner
President Obama upstaged Jay Leno at the White House Correspondents Dinner over the weekend. While Leno was ostensibly the comedy headliner at the affair, the president (reportedly with an assist from writers of The Daily Show ) was the one who brought down the house with zingers aimed at everyone from Vice President Biden to Florida Gov. Charlie Crist to Sarah Palin to .... Jay Leno. "The only person whose [approval] ratings fell more than mine in the last year is here tonight. (Pause) Great to see you Jay." Then, after the laughter died down, he continued, "I'm also glad that I'm speaking first, because we've all seen what happens when somebody takes the time slot after Leno's." Leno himself barely received chuckles from the assembled journalists and politicos, at one time remarking, "This is a tough room."
