Director/writer Nora Ephron, who won Oscar nominations for her screenplays for When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless In Seattle and You've Got Mail , has succumbed to leukemia at the age of 71. Billy Crystal, who played the male title role in When Harry Met Sally , issued a statement saying, "I was very lucky to get to say her words." Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail star Tom Hanks commented that Ephron, who wrote and directed both films, "knew what was important to know; how things really worked, what was worthwhile, who was fascinating and why." Meryl Streep, who starred in Heartburn and Julie & Julia , which Ephron wrote and, in the case of the latter film, also directed, said, "Nora just looked at every situation and cocked her head and thought, 'Hmmmm, how can I make this more fun?'"
