Noel Gallagher Declined Olympic Closing Ceremony Spot Over Miming
The former Oasis mastermind, and now front man of Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, was speaking to the Xfm radio station this week when he revealed the news saying, "They wanted me to do it acoustically - and then they wanted me to mime. And I'm all for miming in TV shows - but if you're in a stadium with 80,000 people and you're pretending? I can play live!" The Mancunian was also on hand to discuss his brother, Liam Gallagher, and the Oasis song 'Wonderwall' that Liam's band Beady Eye played on the night. According to Noel, who wrote the 90's Britpop anthem, he waited until the very last minute before he gave his brother's band the nod to go ahead and perform the song.
He told the radio station, "They had to re-record it and then send it to me. I did play a bit of cat and mouse with them for a few days - I took it 'til Friday night at 10 o'clock before I said yes and they were s******* it." Liam, and Beady Eye, shared Sunday's bill with a host of other 90's throw back artist, including Take That and the Spice Girls - both of whom Liam has had well publicised discrepancies with in the past.
