No Doubt - No Doubt Unveil 'Settle Down', First Single In Nine Years
No Doubt have finally unveiled their first single in nine years. Their forthcoming album, Push and Shove, will be released in September and 'Settle Down' is the first taster that the band has shared with its fans. The track mixes pop, rock and reggae and moves past their ska-punk background, offering fans something slightly different. It's 17 years since they released their breakthrough album 'Tragic Kingdom' and singer Gwen Stefani has steered herself through a successful solo pop career in that time and it seems as though she's brought what she's learned back to the band.
Back in May 2012, No Doubt revealed, in a statement that they were recording new music, saying, "We are incredibly excited to share the new music with you. Ear candy coming your way!" And now, that ear candy has landed. It certainly feels as though No Doubt have decided to move with the times and 'Settle Down' marks an evolution in their sound, with its dancehall-like, dub-inspired ending.
Their upcoming album, including debut single “Settle Down, “is produced by Mark “Spike” Stent. The band also collaborated with Diplo on the track ‘Push and Shove.” Those hoping for a carbon reproduction of their 1990s sound may find themselves disappointed. It's really only the sound of Stefani's voice that brings the nostalgia, in that respect and if 'Settle Down' is anything to go by, it will be closer to their 2001 album 'Rock Steady' than anything else they have released in the past.
