LEONARD NIMOY was overwhelmed during a visit to Vulcan, Canada after residents in the STAR TREK-themed town arranged a parade in his honour.
The Star Trek legend was celebrated during his April (10) visit to the region, which shares its name with the home planet of his most famous character Mr. Spock, and has become a popular tourist attraction for fans of the franchise.
Nimoy, who announced his retirement from Hollywood in April (10), visited the town and even posed next to a bronze statue of his likeness, before watching the locals put on a procession.
And the sci-fi icon admits he was delighted with the small-town tribute.
He says, "I've never had an experience as touching as that in my life. Spock has been a role model for a lot of people by showing dignity, intelligence and professionalism. I'm very proud of that."

| Kewl! You have been assimilated. I live in Vegas and we had our professional Nevada Environmental Health Association at the Las Vegas Hilton. At that same time, we overlapped with the 2009 Star Trek Convention at the Hilton, which my daughter and her friend and I were going to attend after our conference. Our continental breakfast was set up close to where folks were lining up to get their "captain's chair" gold passes. A couple of guys dressed in full Klingon regalia, the foot-high shoes and all, came over and helped themselves to our continental breakfast...who were we to argue! My daughter is also a student of Env. Health and was there to bear witness. We busted a gut! NO ONE in our organization WAS GOING TO TELL THE KLINGONS TO FIND THEIR OWN GACH! Have a great one! | ||

| Dear Kevbelz: Not sure if you know this, but the quote you make regarding Leonard's "get a life, people," comment is a parody of a similar statement that William Shatner said on a Saturday Night Live skit, in which he played himself appearing at a Star Trek Convention with Dana Carvey (dressed as a Star Trek aficionado) asking typically nerdy questions like, "What was the combination on the safe you used in Episode #33, to escape..."? That SNL episode in and of itself has become a pop culture moment. Anyone who knows and loves Star Trek in all its many permutations, the characters, and actors who play the characters is aware of this quote and make fun of and enjoy its use on a regular basis. It's all in good fun and we tell each other to "Get a Life," regularly! I am sure no one in Vulcan was offended. They clearly "get it," and probably had a roll-on-the-floor laugh about it. Mr. Nimoy is nothing if not a gracious gentleman and terrific actor who loves his fans and the role he has played in popular culture. No one laughs at us "trekkers" more than ourselves and sarcasm is enjoyed like fine wine, as any "Red Shirt" will tell you. So I hope you took no offense at his remarks; I am sure that none of his fans in Vulcan did! Have an awesome day and go watch some Old Star Trek! Join us...we have cookies! Just don't let the Klingons steal your breakfast! | ||
