Nicole Richie Takes Style Tips From Her Kids

Nicole Richie's children are her biggest fashion critics.

The 30-year-old fashion designer - who has daughter Harlow Winter, four, and two-year-old son Sparrow James with her rocker husband Joel Madden - says her kids have a keen sense of style and like to give her brutally honest feedback on her outfits.

Nicole told People magazine: ''I was wearing these polka-dot harem pants the other day and my daughter said to me, 'Mom, why are you wearing your pyjamas out?'

''I was like, oh boy, already getting an opinion.

''My son always comes up to me and gives me a hug if he thinks I look pretty.

''Their biggest compliment to me if I'm wearing anything with sequins on it, they tell me that I look like a princess.''

Nicole is known for her boho chic style and perfectly put together looks, but the reality star thinks the secret to her style icon status is her love of accessories.

She explained: ''I think of myself as kind of a jeans and T-shirt person who just accessorises a lot. I am probably an over-accessoriser.

''It's really easy to change up jeans and a T-shirt with shoes and sunglasses and a bag. There's a million different ways to go ahead and do that.''

The reality star - whose father is Lionel Richie - has just launched her first self-titled fragrance which was inspired by her childhood and her personal style.

She said: ''It's very much a reflection of my individual style - a spiritual balance of femininity and bohemian.''
