Nick Cannon Documenting Medical Crisis

TV personality Nick Cannon is shining a light on his battle with ill health by documenting his recovery in a new short film.

The America's Got Talent presenter was diagnosed with acute kidney failure in December (11) and in February (12) doctors discovered blood clots in his lungs.

Medics finally got to the bottom of his condition and found the actor/rapper to be suffering from a rare form of lupus, which causes his immune system to attack his kidney organs.

Now Cannon has compiled hours of hospital footage to create short documentary The Incredible Health Hussle.

During an interview on Piers Morgan Tonight, which aired in America on Friday (09Mar12), he said, "The whole process I've been documenting. Since probably my first time out of the hospital in January, I've just been having the cameras on. It's real intimate and raw."

And the star is hoping his highly-publicised medical ordeal will help others who are struggling.

He adds, "(I want) to kind of show the other people that are dealing with these illnesses that they're not alone. A lot of people see me on television talking to Piers Morgan and different shows but they don't really get to see how it's affecting me. There's so many questions. How did you get this? How are you working through it? You're going to see all of this... (in) The Incredible Health Hussle."

We at the Lupus Research Institute so appreciate Nick's commitment to educating people about lupus and letting people know they are not alone with their illness. We look forward to the release of his documentary, The Incredible Health Hustle, as just one of the ways he is helping people understand what he and the 1.5 million people with lupus go through.
