Roger Waters - New York Theatre Bosses Cancel Roger Waters Appearance
Roger Waters' upcoming appearance at a Jewish cultural mecca in New York City has been cancelled following outrage from officials at a leading religious group.
The Pink Floyd star was scheduled to sit for an interview at the Theresa L. Kaufmann Concert Hall at the end of the month (Apr13). The show was rescheduled to June and now it has been scrapped altogether, according to an online ticket link to the event.
The news comes just weeks after Waters urged his fellow musicians to boycott Israel in protest of ongoing hostilities with Palestinians.
He told Electronic Intifada a boycott, similar to the one implemented against South Africa during apartheid, is the "way to go".
Taking aim at Israeli officials, he adds, "They are running riot, and it seems unlikely that running over there and playing the violin will have any lasting effect."
It appears officials at JCC Watch were insulted by Waters' comments and they urged bosses at the venue to pull the plug on the interview.
In a post on the group's website, Richard Allen writes, "It's absolutely outrageous that Jewish community funds are going to help Roger Waters spread his anti-Semitic message."
The rocker recently revealed he discouraged Stevie Wonder from performing at a gala dinner for the Israeli Defense Forces in December (12), and now he's keen to stop other artists from playing in Israel.
