New Orleans, Louisiana music legend Wardell Quezergue has died of congestive heart failure.
He passed away on Tuesday (06Sep11) at the age of 81.
Paying tribute to his late friend, celebrated composer Allen Toussaint tells the Associated Press, "What a mark he made. In fact, what several marks he made. He was just a magnificent man in every way. He was a superb musician and bandleader. He always inspired the best out of people who were playing with him."
Quezergue was best known for his arrangement of Iko Iko for the Dixie Cups and Jean Knight's soul classic Mr. Big Stuff.
He was a big part of New Orleans' post-Hurricane Katrina clean-up after his home was destroyed by the 2005 storm.
