New Addition To James Bond Books Series Confirmed
Estate of original James Bond book writer Ian Fleming confirms September release
The James Bond films are one of the most famous movie franchises in the world, but some forget that they were – initially at least – among one of the most successful book adaptations in the world too. So it’s interesting to note that 60 years after the first was published, there will be a new James Bond book released.
IAN FLEMING was the writer of the original books, penning Casino Royale in 1953 and releasing 13 more up until 1966, with The Man With The Golden Gun and Octopussy and The Living Daylights released posthumously after his death in 1964. Through one form another, with several writers getting involved, the Fleming estate have always ensured that the books have remained a part of the Bond story up until present day, though they’ve been hugely overshadowed by their film counterparts.
This new title will be written by British novelist William Boyd, with the book coming out September 26, 2013. It will be published by James Cape, Fleming’s original publisher. "We can reveal that this novel will see a return to the classic Bond era, featuring a 45-year-old 007 in 1969," a statement from the estate said. It’s worth noting that, despite the books lower profile than the movies, they have sold more than 100 million copies worldwide to-date.
