Nelson Saving America's Wild Horses
Country music legend and horseman WILLIE NELSON is urging fans to join his efforts to save the last of America's wild horses.
The singer, who has 68 horses of his own, has teamed up with the Animal Welfare Institute (AWI) - a non-profit animal rights organisation - to raise awareness for the cause.
And the grizzled hitmaker insists efforts must be stepped up to put a stop to animal cruelty.
In an open letter he writes, "I got involved eight years ago when AWI first made me aware that American horses are being slaughtered and shipped overseas for human consumption.
"There are more wild horses in holding pens than in the wild. Something is wrong with that, so we must act now before the Bureau of Land Management has managed these magnificent animals into extinction."
