Neil Young Confirmed As Isle Of Wight Headliner

by | 05 March 2009

Rock legend Neil Young has been announced as the final headliner for this year's Isle of Wight festival.

The Heart of Gold star, whose career spans four decades, joins a line-up for the June event which already includes the Prodigy, Stereophonics and Razorlight.

"I have tried every year since we restarted the event to book Neil Young," explained Isle of Wight organiser John Giddings.

"His music is part of my life and has inspired generations ever since. I'm sure that his performance will be talked about for years to come."

Young's appearance at the Isle of Wight festival is likely to increase speculation that he will also perform at the 2009 Glastonbury Festival, having been heavily linked with a Sunday headline slot.

Oscar-nominated Young, born in Toronto, Canada, in 1945, is a member of the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame and has been involved with over 60 albums as a solo artist and band member, as well as being voted the voice of the decade by Rolling Stone magazine in the 1970s.

He will perform at the Isle of Wight festival on Sunday June 14th, with sets earlier in the weekend coming from Basement Jaxx, the Ting Tings, the Charlatans and Pendulum.
