Sweet Caroline! £2,600 for a Neil Diamond Album!? 4156851 News

A maths teacher from Lighthorne, south Warwickshire in England was surprised to see that her phone bill soared to £2,609.31 ($4361.46) after downloading The Best of Neil Diamond from iTunes – usually an £8.99 ($15) album – while on holiday in South Africa with her boyfriend.

Neil DiamondNeil Diamond's good, but is is £2,600 good?

"It was a lunchtime get-together with my boyfriend's family at a house where we were staying near the Kruger National Park. I'd had a bit of wine but not too much,” explained Katie Bryan.

"People were playing music through their iPads or on phones through an iPod dock. Someone had put on the Traveling Wilburys but I just fancied hearing some Neil Diamond. I don't know why. He's more my boyfriend's musical taste and I'm more of a James Blunt fan,” she added. What about Damon Albarn?

Neil Diamond’s ‘best of’ comprises 21 tracks including Mr. Bojangles, Sweet Caroline, Cherry, Cherry and Love on The Rocks. "It wasn't a particular song that I wanted to hear. I'm really not that big a Neil Diamond fan. And I'd already got his Essential Neil Diamond CD at home, in my car."

After what we assume were some pretty heated phone conversations, Orange lowered the bill to £400 and apologised for any inconvenience caused. "I think Orange are preying on people who make a mistake while abroad. Why such a massive difference in cost? In England you would just pay the album price,” added Bryan.

"There is no way this huge bill relates to the actual cost to Orange. You hear of people doing this and you think 'stupid person - why did you do that?' I do feel foolish. But I also feel it is morally wrong to be expected to pay this sort of money for a Neil Diamond album."

Barry Manilow & Neil Diamond Win Hearts In A Glittering July Fourth DC Performance 3747336 News

In a display of unrivalled patriotism, timeless icons Barry Manilow and Neil Diamond graced Washington DC's National Mall to help celebrate Independence Day, performing in front of thousands of fans and TV viewers.

The audience were also treated to acclaimed composer John Williams conducting scores from Steven Spielberg's Lincoln movie, with a special video introduction from the director himself and the National Symphony Orchestra lending their unique talents, according to Billboard.

<However, the unequivocal jewel in the crown of the festivities was Diamond's performance of 'Sweet Caroline,' dedicated to the victims and survivors of the 15th April Boston marathon bombing which gave the onlookers chance to reflect on the horrors of that fateful day amongst the unbridled joy and optimism of July fourth. Manilow provided the evening's final song with 'Let Freedom Ring' and whilst his final warbling notes hung in the air, fireworks lit up the sky as the bright eyes of a thousand Americans looked towards the heavens in marvel. The 17 minute spectacle was played out as the scaffolded Washington Monument - damaged in the earthquake two years ago - stood silhouetted as a reminder of America's unshakeable pride.

Manilow, who has recently turned 70, spoke to the Denver Postabout his experience of getting older: "You know, I don't feel any different. I've got energy and ideas. I expected the moment I hit this age my hair would turn silver and I'd start to drool and limp with a cane, and none of that has happened. I feel the same. I think I look decent. I've still got my own hair. I'm just waiting for this old guy to appear!" Yet the septuagenarian admitted that a musician life with its constant touring schedule was "a young man's job," stating, "I just miss home. I started so many years ago and when you do that, you don't have a life. Your life is hotel rooms and waiting for airplanes and bad room service."

No Pictures Please! Steven Tyler Leads The Fight Against Paparazzi 3489581 News

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler will attend a hearing in Hawaii on Friday (February 8, 2013) for discussions on a bill that would limit people's freedom to take photographs and videos of celebrities. Hawaii's Senate Judiciary Committee plans to consider the so called 'Steven Tyler Act' this morning - the first time in which lawmakers will discuss the bill publically.

A publicist for the former American Idol judge - one of the most recognizable men on the planet - told the Associated Press that Tyler has submitted written testimony supporting the proposal, which would allow celebrities to collect damages from someone who takes photographs in an offensive way. Tyler certainly has some big hitters on-side, including Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne, Neil Diamond, Tommy Lee and the Osbourne family. "Providing a remedy to the often-egregious acts of the paparazzi is a very notable incentive to purchase property or vacation on the islands," the stars say, "Not only would this help the local economy, but it would also help ensure the safety of the general public, which can be threatened by crowds of cameramen or dangerous high-speed car chases." The proposal is perhaps all the more relevant following the recent death of a photographer in Los Angeles who was attempting to snap pictures of Justin Bieber.

Hawaii Governor Neil Abercrombie says he supports the intent of the bill, though warns it may needed refining. Opponents simply say the bill could be unconstitutional.

Neil Diamond: 'Queen Preferred Talking To My Wife' 3383686 News

Veteran singer Neil Diamond missed out on a lengthy chat with Britain's Queen Elizabeth Ii at a London concert on Monday (19Nov12) because the royal was more interested in quizzing his wife about horses.

The Sweet Caroline hitmaker had hoped he would get a chance to talk openly with the monarch after he was invited to perform for her at the annual Royal Variety Show.

But while backstage, the Queen struck up a conversation with Diamond's wife Katie MCNeil about her favourite animal, leaving the singer to chat to her husband Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, instead.

Diamond tells U.K. series The One Show, "I had the most fun. I got the chance to sing to Her Majesty, which was the reason for our trip over here. It was unique and extraordinary. I had a chance to speak to Her Majesty during intermission before I went on.

"We had a nice chat but she really wanted to chat to my wife about horses. They did talk, and had a nice conversation. I did chat with Prince Philip for a little bit."

However, the star insists it was an honour to play for royalty, insisting, "Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful experience. I don't think I'll forget it."

Tonight's TV: Cheryl Cole Regrets Filming 'Cringy' Reality Show 3382783 News

Cheryl Cole has joked that she regrets filming her new TV show Access All Areas because it highlights her "cringy" side. The ITV2 programme - which airs at 9pm tonight - features Cole's new boyfriend Tre Holloway and reveals how the pair got together.

The show was filmed during Cheryl's first solo tour though it's the scenes with backing dancer Holloway that will most interest fans of the Geordie star. According to The Metro, some scenes feature the pair "kissing and snuggling backstage" as well as "feeding each other sweets." Tweeting this afternoon, Cole said, "My Access All Areas behind the scenes tour documentary is on tonight 9 on Itv2 !! Who'll be watching ??? I literally had a friend of mine filming so that i would not feel like i had a 'camera crew' in my way and at times forgot myself." Though the show will no doubt draw huge numbers, the singer warned, "I have since regretted this decision at the number of times i cringed watching it lolololol..Oh well.. It is def Access All Areas. Up close personal and RAW hahaha." During a sneak peek of the show, Cole confirms her relationship with Holloway, telling the camera, "Tre is a dancer and he is my boyfriend. And the rest you can figure out for yourself."

The singer had every reason to be in a good mood today, having performed with Girls Aloud for The Queen at last night's Royal Variety Performance. The reunited girl group performed 'The Promise' on an evening that also featured the likes of Rod Stewart, Neil Diamond and One Direction.

Fit For A Queen? Royal Variety Features One Direction, David Walliams and Washing Machines 3382592 News

It's that time of year again people. The Royal Variety Performance was taped on Monday evening (November 19, 2012) and featured a whole host of entertainment stars taking to the stage at London's Albert Hall in front of one very special guest. This year, the Queen witnessed performances from the likes of One Direction, Girls Aloud and Katherine Jenkins, reports the Daily Mirror.

Fresh from their stateside success, the 1D boys were back in London  to perform new single 'Little Things', though we're not sure how it went down with her majesty. David Walliams' skit afterwards probably confused her even more; the Little Britain star bounding on-stage in a wig and red cardigan while pretending to be a stalker. "I've got a washing machine and I named it One Direction. You make me so happy," he yelled in a high pitched voice. "Was your song What Makes You Beautiful written about me? I love you so much. Will you marry me?" The group turned down his proposal before he approached heartthrob Harry Styles to ask him to "take a photo" of him with the rest of the boys. Walliams, 41, hosted the evening with Amanda Holden also on-hand to introduce some of the acts.

Elsewhere, a reunited Girls Aloud took to the stage to perform 'The Promise' and Cheryl Cole spoke of meeting the Queen afterwards. "The Queen is so delicate. She has hair like Candy floss and tiny dancing style shoes, awww. Another highlight was Alicia Keys, such an incredibly talented and down to earth woman," she said. The 100th anniversary of the Royal Variety Performance will air on ITV on December 3, also featuring performances from Rod Stewart, Robbie Williams and Neil Diamond.
