Nbc Wins November Ratings Sweeps

NBC had to share the No. 1 position among the 18-49 age group on the weekly Nielsen ratings chart with CBS last week, but nevertheless it remained on top for the eighth consecutive week. It also won its first November Sweep since 2003. Pretty good for a network that had seemed mired in last place for years. Moreover, it was particularly strong when it came to must-see-live programming, the kind that most people view without skipping commercials. We are just hell-bent on programming (shows) that have to be watched at a certain time, NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt told Daily Variety The best business model for us is live shows (and) shows where people have to talk about the storylines and the contestants. Still, CBS is mounting a pretty stiff challenge. It was particularly strong when it came to scripted series. While NBC claimed only one spot for such shows on Nielsen's top 20 (Revolution), CBS placed 11. It also remained dominant among total adults, finishing on top in every half-hour from Tuesday through Friday. Once again, the top-rated program of the week among total adults and the 18-49 demo was NBC's Sunday Night Football with 18.16 million viewers. But moving up to second place was CBS's The Big Bang Theory, which drew 17.63 million, edging out the usual second-place finisher, NCIS with 17.05 million viewers. NCIS: Los Angeles slipped to fourth place with 15.77 million. Rounding out the top five was CBS's Person of Interest with 14.57 million viewers.
