Nbc Has Its Best Season Start In Ten Years

NBC dominated the ratings among adults 18-49 for the fourth consecutive week last week -- the first time it has done so since the Must-See-TV days of 2002 when its Thursday night comedy lineup and ER dominated the Nielsen top ten. However, while the network overwhelms on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, thanks primarily to Sunday Night Football, The Voice, Revolution and the new comedy Go On, it underwhelms on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, where it remains mired in last place. (All of the networks have written off Saturday, which they use mostly as a dumping ground for failing shows or repeats of unscripted shows that aired earlier in the week.) CBS remained the most-watched network among adults overall, but the number of younger viewers it attracted was down by nearly 20 percent from last season. Down, too, were the audiences for the NBC and ABC evening newscasts. They did not move to CBS's newscast, however, which remained virtually flat (up 1 percent, a statistically insignificant percentage) year-over-year. Last week, NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams led with 7.85 million viewers. ABC World News with Diane Sawyer followed with 7.05 million. The CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley placed third with 6.06 million viewers. Among total viewers, CBS led with a 6.6 rating and an 11 share. ABC placed second with a 5.2/8, edging out NBC with a 4.7/8. Fox trailed with a 3.5/6.

The top ten shows of the week among total adults, according to Nielsen Research:
1. Sunday Night Football, NBC, 10.7/17; 2. 60 Minutes, CBS, 10.0/15; 3. The Big Bang Theory, CBS, 9.7/16; 4. Dancing With The Stars (Monday), ABC, 9.2/13; 5. Dancing with the Stars (Tuesday), ABC, 8.8/13; 6. Person of Interest, CBS, 8.7/13; 7. Two and a Half Men, CBS, 8.5/13; 8. The Voice, NBC, 7.6/11; 9. Criminal Minds, CBS, 7.5/11; 10. Modern Family, ABC, 7.3/11.
