Nbc Getting $200 Million For Program Development

Steve Burke, the new president of NBC Universal, will be pumping $200 million of mostly Comcast money into programming development for the broadcast network in hopes of making it competitive again. As reported by today's (Thursday) New York Post , most of those funds will go towards revamping the 10 00 p.m. time period, a period that has been losing viewers steadily in recent years as many of them watch programs that they had recorded earlier in the evening. NBC was particularly hard hit in that hour last year by the experiment to air The Jay Leno Show at 10 00 p.m. "For many months last year you had either Leno up until the Olympics, or repeats [after the Olympics]", Burke told analysts in a conference call. He acknowledged that the revival of the network will take time, possibly years. "It is a very tough business to turn around," he said.
