National Movie Award Nominees Announced

Aaron Johnson and his superhero comedy 'Kick-Ass' are among the nominees at this year's National Movie Awards.

The 19-year-old actor is among a number of Britons to be nominated in the Performance of the Year Male/Female category, including Gemma Arterton for 'Clash of the Titans', Robert Pattinson for 'The Twilight Saga: New Moon' and Jude Law for 'Sherlock Holmes'.

'Kick-Ass' - which recently hit the top of the US box office chart - is among five films named in the Best Action/Thriller category, which includes 'Inglorious Basterds', 'Sherlock Holmes', 'Shutter Island' and '2012'.

Voting for the winners will be done by the public, with forms available at all UK cinemas, in national newspapers and magazines and online at www.nationalmovieawards.com.

Barry Jenkins, chair of the All Industry Marketing for Cinema trade body, claimed this year's event would be the biggest ever.

He said: "With industry support, the National Movie Awards 2010 will be the most spectacular movie awards event of the year. We're excited to be working closely with Indigo Television and ITV1 - and we look forward to learning the outcome of the public votes."

Voting for the awards open today (20.04.10) with the event itself happening in May at the Royal Festival Hall, London.
