Natalie Wood - Natalie Wood Death Investigation Re-opens Following 'New Information'

18 November 2011
Natalie Wood, the Hollywood actress who died in 1981 after being found dead in water near Beverly Hills, has had the inquest into her death re-opened again 30 years on after police claim that they've been offered fresh evidence that could help with the case.

Wood had a glittering career on the big screen after her breakthrough role in 1955 film 'Rebel Without A Cause' saw her nominated for an Academy Award in the 'Best Supporting Actress' category. She reached her peak in the early 60s when a slew of roles in the likes of 'Splendour In The Grass' (1961), 'Gypsy' (1962), 'Love With The Proper Stranger' (1963) and 'This Property Is Condemned' (1966) saw her receive global plaudits and nominations for an array of awards.

The star's death was ruled an accident by the Los Angeles Coroner's Office back in 1981 after Wood - who was married to actor Robert Wagner - supposedly drowned having been found in the water wearing a parka coat; it was believed that she'd gone overboard whilst boating with Wagner and fellow actor Christopher Walken. At the time it was believed she'd been bothered by the sound of a dinghy hitting the boat and gone to re-tie it; however Wood's sister Lana refused to believe this, saying her sibling was terrified of the water and would never have attempted to do such a thing. Now, it appears her pleas have been answered, with CBS reporting that police have decided to re-open the inquiry following contact by "persons who stated they had additional information about the Natalie Wood Wagner drowning."
