Natalie Maines - Natalie Maines Thrilled About West Memphis Three Release

Dixie Chicks star Natalie Maines took to Twitter.com over the weekend (19-21Aug11) to celebrate the release of the West Memphis Three from an Arkansas prison on Friday (19Aug11).
The singer joined family members, friends and supporters of Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley, Jr. and Jason Baldwin in court as they became free men after pleading guilty to murdering three boy scouts in 1993.
The trio walked free from court and promptly insisted they had served 18 years behind bars for a crime they "did not commit" at a press conference.
Maines and rocker Eddie Vedder have been the trio's staunchest celebrity campaigners, and the country singer couldn't hide her delight when her friends were released.
In a tweet on Friday, she wrote, "Beautiful things went down in Arkansas today. Beautiful beautiful things... I'm sitting in a holding room at the courthouse about to see three men walk free!"
Maines also took a moment to thank Pearl Jam star Vedder for all his hard work, adding he "worked hard on this and is an angel!"
And the singer accepts the three men had to plead guilty to the crime in order to be released; she doesn't think they are guilty.
She states, "They must plead guilty as a technicality so they can't sue AK (Arkansas) for $$ (money)... 3 men are free after 18 years of wrongful imprisonment."
Echols, Misskelley, Jr. and Baldwin were also sentenced to serve life prison sentences in 1994, despite maintaining they were not responsible for the deaths of the scouts. Echols was also placed on death row.
Celebrities like Vedder and Maines became involved in the campaign to free the West Memphis Three after Dna evidence found at the site of the satanic killings failed to match the three men.

This case was a very interesting one. Misskelley confessed three separate times. Baldwin told someone else he committed the crimes. Echols was seen in muddy clothes near the crime scene. He bragged about the murder to two other teenagers, stating he killed the three boys. This was presented as evidence at the trial. Echols also had a history of psychiatric treatment. His reported actions included brutally killing a dog, starting fires at his school, threatening to kill his teachers and parents and stating he liked to drink blood.Echols' stated under cross-examination that he was interested in the occult. A funeral register found in his room with hand-drawn pentagrams and upside-down crosses. Echols' journal contained morbid images and references to dead children. goo.gl/RGrih

Well, first off, the article is wrong in stating that the killings were "satanic". That has been proven to be false. They originally believed one of those boys was mutilated with a knife, but forensic experts later proved it was actually inflicted post-mortem by animals and scavengers...They also believed the convicted were satanists and devil worshipers because, as the states phony "expert" testified.......get ready for this......they wore black and listened to Metallica!! Ridiculous...Anyways, none of Echols' comments or writings prove anything whatsoever except he was a troubled teen...not uncommon...Also, there is more than enough evidence and witnesses that have proven the confessions were coerced. People were threatened with all kinds of things by the police to say they heard or saw something. Most have recanted. Please don't make comments and judge them before you research the entire case!! I can't stand people who read two articles or watch a news clip and think they know the whole story!! Some people are so ignorant..This country is in a sad state...Oh well, THEY ARE FREE!!!!!!!!

Echols was not just a "troubled teen." He had serious psychiatric problems. They had legal histories. Read the court documents, not just the WM3 support pages and movies.
