Naomie Harris - Naomie Harris, Introducing James Bond's New 'Moneypenny'
London-born actress Naomie Harris will play Miss Moneypenny in the new James Bond movie, making her the first black actress to play the legendary role. The 35-year-old, who plays Tia Dalma in The Pirates of the Caribbean movies, will star alongside Daniel Craig and Berenice Marlohe in Sam Mendes forthcoming 'Skyfall'
Speaking to IndieLondon at the official launch of the movie on Thursday, Harris said she was still in shock at landing the part, saying, "I still can't believe it's happening really. I'm still having to pinch myself. I'm totally, so excited, and just raring to go. I've spent two months training so far, so I feel really ready for the rollercoaster that's about to commence". Harris will initially play M16 field agent 'Eve', before becoming Bond's famous foil 'Miss Moneypenny'. The film began shooting in London yesterday, with production expected to move to Scotland and Shanghai before the end of the year. According to the UK's Daily Mail, Naomie's portrayal of Moneypenny is likely to be very different from those of predecessors Samantha Bond, Caroline Bliss and Louis Maxwell, although it has not been disclosed how Eve lands the job.
Also announced at Thursday's press conference was the casting of Albert Finney, Ralph Fiennes and young star Ben Whishaw, although their specific roles are yet to be revealed. Dame Judi Dench will reprise her role as M, while Spanish actor Javier Bardem plays the latest villain.
